Tue Devo Phil 3:9

Philippians 3:9 "and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ-the righteousness that comes from god and is by faith."

What a powerful verse. When it comes to my relationship with God usuallyI think in terms of what I am doing or what I am failing to do. To be truthful it is not about me at all. The only thing I bring to the cross and my salvation is my sin. Any righteousness I might have is given to me by Jesus. Any good that I might have done was done by the strength of Jesus. It is not about what I do but all about what he has done. Even after becoming a Christian it is not about me doing all the right things and believing all the right things. I will never get it right by myself. Praise God I don't have to. Jesus said he is the way, the truth, and the life. As long as I have Jesus who lived the perfect way and was perfectly obedient and deserved eternal life, I also enjoy these things. If I want to go back and try to obtain these things by doing them myself then I am no longer trusting in Christ but my effort. What a joy to know that I don't have to get everything right and do everything right. All this excites me and it does cause me to want to live like him. I want to serve him out of love and not out of guilt or law. Have you been trying to please him by what you are doing or believing or by trusting Jesus who is perfect in his life and obedience? What joy can be ours if we only trust in his good work rather than ours.

Mike
